Common Tesla repairs we handle
Questions
Tesla, answered
- Do Teslas need oil changes?
- No. Teslas have no combustion engine, so there is no engine oil to change and no oil filter, spark plugs or exhaust system to service. They still need tires, brakes, suspension, cabin filters, brake fluid and coolant attended to, and the battery and software kept in good order.
- How many miles do Teslas last?
- Tesla drivetrains have far fewer moving parts than a combustion engine, and the battery is the component that determines long term life. Regular battery health checks show how range and performance are holding up over time, which is the most useful indicator of where a vehicle stands.
- Why do Teslas wear tires faster?
- Teslas deliver instant torque and carry considerable weight from the battery pack, and both put extra load on tires. Regular rotation is more important here than on a lighter car, because it is what keeps wear even and stops a set being replaced far earlier than necessary.
- Can an independent shop service a Tesla?
- Yes. McNeil's is EV certified and our technicians are trained on high voltage systems, with Tesla among the marques we specialize in. That covers tires, brakes, suspension, alignment, cabin filters and twelve volt faults, which is most of what a Tesla actually needs, at both Riverton and Sandy.
Qualifying repairs are covered nationwide
McNeil’s is a NAPA Gold certified shop with ASE certified technicians, and qualifying work carries a 36 month, 36,000 mile warranty honored at participating NAPA AutoCare shops across the country rather than only here.
