Questions
Tire Service, answered
- How often should you rotate your tires?
- We recommend tire rotations every 5,000 miles, which for most drivers falls naturally alongside a routine oil change. Rotating tires promotes even tread wear, extends how long a set lasts and helps maintain fuel efficiency, so it is among the cheapest maintenance available.
- How do I know when I need new tires?
- Check tread depth, and look for uneven wear, cracking in the sidewall or visible bulges. Tread that is worn low sharply increases stopping distance in the wet. Our technicians check tread depth and tire pressure as part of routine service and will show you what they find.
- What tire services does McNeil's offer?
- We handle every aspect of tire maintenance and replacement, including rotations, puncture repairs, balancing, new tire sales and fitting. We stock a wide range of tires for all makes and models, and our team can help you choose between all-season, performance and other options.
- Why do my tires wear unevenly?
- Uneven wear usually points to something other than the tires themselves, most often wheel alignment, worn suspension components, or incorrect inflation. Replacing tires without fixing the cause means the new set wears the same way, so it is worth having the alignment and suspension checked.
- How much is a tire rotation?
- A rotation is one of the least expensive services on the vehicle, and many drivers have it done alongside an oil change so it costs nothing extra in time. We will confirm the price when you book, and check tread depth and pressure while the wheels are off.
- Can I mix different tire brands on my vehicle?
- Replacing all four with the same brand and model gives the most predictable handling. Where that is not possible, replace them in pairs across an axle, front or rear, matching tread pattern as closely as you can. We will tell you what is fitted now and what pairs safely with it.
- Do I need a wheel alignment when I get new tires?
- We recommend one. New tires fitted to a vehicle that is out of alignment begin wearing unevenly straight away, which shortens the life of a set you have just paid for. An alignment check when the tires go on protects that set and improves how the vehicle handles.
