Hybrid Repair and Service at our Riverton shop

Hybrid systems are diagnosed and repaired in house at McNeil's Auto Care in Riverton. That is a deliberate capability rather than a line on a website: the shop is EV certified and the technicians are trained on high voltage systems, so a hybrid is not quoted here and then sent somewhere else for the part of the job that matters.

A hybrid is two drivetrains sharing one vehicle, and most of what goes wrong lives at the join. Regenerative braking changes how pads and rotors wear, so brakes are inspected against what the vehicle actually does rather than a mileage interval. The engine half still needs conventional oil, filters and cooling service on its own schedule.

The high voltage side needs equipment and training that a general shop may not have, which is the usual reason a hybrid gets referred to a dealership. Battery management faults, inverter and converter problems and the cooling loops that keep the pack in temperature range are all handled at Riverton rather than passed along.

We will also tell you when something does not need doing. A hybrid battery that is reading within tolerance does not get replaced because it is old, and nothing is authorized until you have approved both the work and the price. Our technicians are ASE certified and the shop is NAPA Gold certified.

Hybrids also change what routine servicing looks like. Tires, suspension and cabin filters wear on ordinary schedules, brake fluid and the cooling loops still need attention, and the engine runs less often than it would in a conventional car, which affects how its oil ages rather than removing the need to change it.

Riverton runs five service bays and a customer lounge with free Wi-Fi, and loaner vehicles and a local shuttle are available if the diagnosis needs the vehicle for a while. Qualifying work carries a 36 month, 36,000 mile nationwide warranty. Book online in about a minute or call the shop, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Hybrid Repair and Service in Riverton, answered

Does a hybrid battery have to be replaced as a whole pack?
Not always. Many packs are built from modules, and one weak module can drag the capacity the whole pack reports down with it. Testing module by module shows whether this is a single module, a cooling problem or genuinely a pack at the end of its life, which are very different repairs.
Why does my hybrid use more fuel in winter?
Several reasons at once, and none of them is a fault. A cold battery delivers less, the engine runs longer to make heat for the cabin, and the gasoline side therefore carries more of the work. Economy that comes back in spring is normal. Economy that does not come back is worth testing.
Does the hybrid system need cooling service of its own?
On many vehicles, yes. The inverter and often the battery pack have cooling separate from the engine, and a battery cooling fan drawing through a clogged intake filter is a common and entirely avoidable cause of pack degradation. Both get checked here rather than assumed to be sealed for life.
Do hybrid brakes have a problem of their own to watch for?
Corrosion and seizure, more than wear. Pads that are barely used still rust, and calipers and slide pins that seldom work hard can stick. On a hybrid the friction material often outlasts the hardware holding it, so an inspection looks at condition and free movement as closely as it looks at thickness.
