Clutch Repair at our Riverton shop

A clutch is the connection between the engine and the gearbox, and it is a wear item: every start from rest uses a little of it. At McNeil's Auto Care in Riverton the job is to work out how much is left and whether what you are feeling is the clutch at all.

Slipping under load, a biting point that has crept toward the top of the pedal, a burning smell after a hill, or a pedal that has gone heavy or vague are the usual signs. Some of those are the clutch itself and some are hydraulics, a master or slave cylinder, or a cable, and they cost very different amounts to fix.

That distinction is worth making before any work is quoted, because a clutch replacement means the gearbox comes out. It is one of the longer jobs in the shop, and we would rather find a failing slave cylinder than charge you for a clutch you did not need.

Riverton runs five service bays, which is what makes a job of that length practical without blocking everything else, and loaner vehicles and a local shuttle mean you are not without a vehicle while the gearbox is out.

You get a diagnosis and a price before the work starts, and nothing is authorized until you approve it. The shop is NAPA Gold certified with ASE certified technicians, and qualifying work carries a 36 month, 36,000 mile nationwide warranty. Open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Clutch Repair in Riverton, answered

Can I keep driving a clutch that slips?
Briefly and gently, but it gets worse quickly and it never gets cheaper. A slipping clutch makes heat, and heat is what damages the flywheel and pressure plate alongside the disc. Caught early the flywheel can often be resurfaced rather than replaced, which is a meaningful difference in the final bill.
How long will the vehicle be in the shop?
Plan on one to two days for most cars. The gearbox has to come out, and with five service bays the Riverton shop can give a job that long its own space without everything else backing up. Loaners, the shuttle and financing are all available for a repair this size.
What gets replaced along with the clutch disc?
The pressure plate and the release bearing as a set, because reusing either is false economy once the gearbox is already out. The flywheel is measured and then resurfaced or replaced on its condition, and the pilot bearing and input shaft seal get checked while everything is still accessible.
Do automatic vehicles have a clutch?
They have several, inside the transmission, and none of them are serviced this way. A dual clutch automatic is different again and does wear out its clutch packs over time. If your vehicle is an automatic and it is slipping, that is a transmission diagnosis rather than a clutch job.
