Service
Diagnostic Service
Vehicle diagnostics at both McNeil’s shops, with the findings shown to you on screen before any repair is authorized.

A warning light or a noise is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Our technicians use modern scan tools and manufacturer procedures to find the actual cause, then show you what they found before anything is repaired.
That last part is the difference. Rather than describing the problem over the phone, your service advisor walks you through it: the findings on screen, the photos and measurements the technician recorded, and a price for the repair. You approve the work, or you do not, and either way you leave knowing what your vehicle needs.
Diagnosis covers engine and drivetrain, electrical and charging, cooling, emissions readiness and hybrid or EV systems. Qualifying repairs that follow carry a 36 month, 36,000 mile nationwide warranty through the NAPA AutoCare network.
Questions
Diagnostic Service, answered
- What is the difference between a symptom and a diagnosis?
- A warning light or a noise is a symptom, not a diagnosis. It tells you something is wrong without telling you which part failed. Our technicians use modern scan tools and manufacturer procedures to find the actual cause, then show you what they found before anything is repaired.
- What systems does diagnostic service cover?
- Diagnosis covers engine and drivetrain, electrical and charging, cooling, emissions readiness, and hybrid or electric vehicle systems. Because McNeil's is EV certified, high voltage faults are diagnosed in house rather than referred elsewhere. Qualifying repairs carry a 36 month, 36,000 mile nationwide warranty.
- Will you tell me the cost before doing any repairs?
- Yes. Rather than describing the problem over the phone, your service advisor walks you through it: the findings on screen and the photos and measurements the technician recorded, alongside a price for the repair. You see the evidence before you authorize anything, and nothing starts until you do.
- How is this different from a free code read?
- A code read reports a stored number. A diagnosis tests the circuits and components that code points to, using manufacturer procedures, until the failed part is identified. That extra step is what stops you paying for a sensor when the real fault was wiring or a vacuum leak.
- How much does a diagnostic cost?
- Diagnostic charges reflect testing time, which varies a great deal between a clear stored code and a fault that comes and goes. We confirm the charge before starting. You then get the findings on screen and a price for the repair, which you can approve or decline.
